A speech-language pathologist (SLP) is a healthcare professional who specializes in diagnosing, assessing, and treating communication and swallowing disorders in people of all ages. 


An SLP is trained in address cognition (memory, attention, problem solving etc). Speech therapy can help an individual learn memory strategies, develop memory aids to help improve recall and complete daily activities. 

Additionally, an SLP can help educate caregivers on communication techniques to improve their loved ones ability to follow directions and communicate their wants and needs. 


I begin with a conversation to get to know the individual and their family in their  home environment I believe in using patient reported outcomes to identify the patient’s goals and determine the biggest struggles that are impacting a client’s  quality of life. Together, we can formulate a plan to meet those needs.  


Dementia Capable care is an evidenced based program  provided by the Crisis Prevention Institute that focuses on using non pharmaceutical interventions to de-escalate distress behaviors .
